How does the application process work?

1. Application for participation in the Artists’ Greenhouse is made exclusively via this link. Registration applications and/or portfolios will not be accepted by any other means.

2. Submitting your application essentially means creating an online portfolio in a few easy steps – we will ask you to fill in your personal details and upload 10 images that reflect the body of work you intend to present at the fair if you were to be chosen to participate in it. See below tips for creating your portfolio.

3. After you finish creating the online portfolio, you will be required to pay a registration fee of 148 NIS. Please note:
* Payment of the registration fee is an obligatory condition for submitting the application to participate at the fair. Applications for which full registration fees have not been paid will not be presented to the members of the selection committee and will not be examined by them.
* The application process will be complete only after paying the registration fee and receiving a confirmation email including an invoice.
* Payment of the registration fee does not guarantee the acceptance of the candidate to the fair, but only the submission of their application.
* You will not be able to reach the payment page without filling all of the fields in the submission platform.

Why is there a registration fee? See ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ below.

4. At the end of the registration period, all online portfolios will be submitted for examination by the members of the Freshpaint 2024 selection committee – an external committee that changes every year, consisting of professionals from the art field who are not part of the Freshpaint fair management team. The members of the selection committee won’t be able to see the identifying details of the candidates nor their biographies – only the portfolios, artists’ statement and some necessary key data. Your work will be judged based on quality and suitability for a commercial professional fair for contemporary art, and not on the basis of your identity.

5. The decision regarding continued candidacy for the Artists’ Greenhouse is in the hands of the external selection committee. However, the fair’s curatorial team reserves the right to disqualify without any warning candidates who do not meet all of the above admission criteria or who have not followed the instructions of the registration.

6. Artists who pass the selection committee will be invited by the fair’s professional staff for personal interviews and a more in-depth examination of their work. Final answers regarding acceptance or non-acceptance will be provided in March 2021. Not being invited for a personal interview is not necessarily a negative answer, and being invוted for an interview is not necessarily a positive answer. We will send final answers in an orderly manner when all the stages of the admission process are finished.

7. You were accepted to the Artists’ Greenhouse? congratulations! You will be invited to attend a preparatory meeting, and sign an engagement contract for the duration of the fair and the six months that follow. Exhibition at the fair involves paying a participation fee of NIS 1,200 including VAT, signing the engagement contract and complying with all the terms and conditions.

Frequently asked questions:

Who decides which artists are selected to the Artists’ Greenhouse?

Answer: The first stage of the selection process is done exclusively by members of the selection committee. After the interview stage, the final decision will be made by the fair’s curatorial team.

Why do I have to pay a registration fee for applying?

Answer: The registration fee enables us to maintain the registration process which includes, among other things, the online platform for uploading the works, and the recruitment of professional selection committee members who go through hundreds of applications each year. The online submission platform has been developed specifically for Freshpaint, and has been operated by us through the years.

Why do I have to pay for participating in the fair?

Answer: Exhibiting at Freshpaint fair includes countless components, starting with curatorial support, hanging, professional display and lighting equipment, recruitment and training of a sales team, writing professional texts, digital marketing, customer service and more. The participation fee is intended to allow the fair to invest the maximum and the best efforts in each and every one of our Greenhouse artists, and to promote them as much as possible. Our ambition is, of course, to allow all the artists to sell their works and return the investment many times over.

If I wasn’t accepted, can I appeal against the decision?

Answer: No, but you can continue to apply every year. Don’t give up, many of the Greenhouse artists were accepted after several applications.

If I was accepted, does that mean I have to pay the participation fee?

Answer: Only if you want to participate in the fair. The acceptance itself is not binding, and you are not obliged to pay or participate. However, as long as you do not take part in the fair, you will not be part of the Freshpaint Artists’ Greenhouse family and there will really be no value to the statement that you have been ‘accepted to the Artists’ Greenhouse’ – this title is reserved only for artists who took part in the fair itself (physical or digital).

Tips and guidelines for an easy and efficient application:

All the fields in the submission platform must be filled in. Be sure to check ‘not relevant’ when the field is not applicable to you.

After filling in the fields, the Payment button will appear in the top black menu. If the button does not appear, it means that one or more fields were left empty – look for them.

Submissions are presented to the selection committee anonymously – committee members see the uploaded works and the artist’s statement, but not the resume or identifying details of the submitter. Therefore, you should avoid mentioning your name in the titles of the works or in any other place that is not intended for it.

1. Personal details

The artist statement must be written concisely (up to 150 words). The statement should describe, in simple words, your artistic work and the thought processes behind it.

Do not include identifying details in the artist statement (such as your name, a specific award you won in a specific year, etc. – these will appear in the resume).

Make sure that the artist’s statement is written correctly. The fair staff is not responsible for translating or correcting language errors. The statements are reviewed by the committee members exactly as they were written.

2. Uploading works

The uploaded images must represent your artistic work in the best way possible, and be relevant to the body of works you intend to present at the fair.

Choose recent works from the last two years. The details of each artwork must be filled in the fields that appear below each image.

Technical characteristics:

The images must be in JPG format and with a resolution of 72 dpi.

The long side of each image should be at least 600 pixels.

The total weight of each image should be up to 10MB – there is no need to upload heavy images, but there is also no need to resize the ones you already have.

3. Resume

If the specific field (exhibitions / scholarships and awards / residencies and internships / publications) is not applicable to you, check the ‘not relevant’ button.

4. Payment

Payment of the registration fee of NIS 148 will finalize the registration process and will be possible only after filling in all of the fields in the submission platform.

Changes to the submission can be made until the submission platform closes on October 23, 2023 at 8:00 p.m.

For additional questions and technical support, you can contact us by email – info@freshpaint.co.il.

Good Luck!
See you at Freshpaint 2024
