  Fresh paint 3 will include a silent auction of a work by the well-known Israeli artist Lea Nikel. All proceedings from the sale will be donated by the Lea Nikel Foundation to finance art workshops for children with cancer hospitalized at the Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer.
The work offered for sale is owned by the Lea Nikel Foundation, whose aim is to further the acquaintance of local and international audiences with Nikel and her works. In this context, the foundation is funding the production of a catalogue raisonné and donates funds to projects for children.

 

Lea Nikel was born in 1918, and immigrated to the country when she was two years old. In the course of her life, she lived and worked in Tel Aviv, Paris, Rome, New York and Jaffa, and in her last years on Moshav Kidron. Nikel exhibited her works at numerous prominent galleries worldwide; she represented Israel at the 1995 Johannesburg Biennale, and at the 32nd Venice Biennale (1964). She was awarded numerous prizes and honors, including: the Israel Prize (1995); admission into the French Order of Arts and Letters (1997); the Gamzu Prize, Tel Aviv Museum of Art (1987); the Sandberg Prize, The Israel Museum, Jerusalem (1972); and an honorary doctorate, Weizmann Institute (2000). Her works are in the collections of various museums, and are represented in numerous public and private collections, including the Israeli Museum, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Musée d'Art Moderne, Paris; and the Tate Modern, London.
Lea Nikel passed away in 2005.
